Место и роль урока в изучаемой теме: 1 урок по теме «Secondary education in Britain», 4 урок 2 раздела «Образование — мир учения», учебник «Английский язык», О.В. Афанасьева, И.В.Михеева.

Тип урока: урок открытия нового знания

Цели урока:

Развивающая— способствовать развитию навыков во всех видах речевой деятельности, развитию социокультурной компетенции, языковой догадки, рефлексии;

 Воспитательная— воспитывать активную жизненную позицию, формировать дружелюбное и толерантное отношение к ценностям другой культуры, умение сотрудничать и работать в команде.

 

Прогнозируемые результаты

Личностные:

— осознание возможностей самореализации средствами иностранного языка и стремление к совершенствованию собственной речевой культуры в целом;

-толерантное отношение к проявлениям иной культуры

— учить работать в группе, чувствовать свой вклад в общую работу;

Метапредметные:

—  развитие коммуникативной компетенции и исследовательских учебных действий (работа с толковым словарем);

— умение определять задачи, решение которых необходимо для достижения поставленных целей, планировать действия, прогнозировать результаты, анализировать итоги деятельности, делать выводы, вносить коррективы, определять новые цели и задачи на основе результатов работы;

Предметные:

— расширение общего лингвистического кругозора, развитие познавательной, эмоциональной и волевой сфер;

— формирование дружелюбного отношения и толерантности к носителям другого языка на основе знакомства со школьной жизнью своих сверстников в Великобритании.

Дидактические средства: учебник, Логманские словари, карточки с вопросами, раздаточный материал, схема- коврик для командообразования, видеоматериал.

Оборудование: доска, проектор, ноутбук.

Teacher: Good morning, dear ladies! How are you today?

I want you to look at the board very properly and figure out the theme of our lesson.  You have 1 minute to study the slide, put your heads together and put forward your options.

Team  1 : We think the theme of our lesson is “Schools in England”.

Team 2 : It might be “Education in Great Britain”.

Team 3 : in our opinion,  “Lessons in Britain”.

Teacher: Well done, all of you are right. Our theme is “Secondary education in Britain”. Well, what would you like to get to know about this theme?

Student 1: About similarities and differences between English and Russian schools.

Student 2 : About exam system.

Student 3 : School rules and their uniform.

Teacher: Thank you very much.  What do we have to do to achieve this aim? How can we find information?

Student 4: Reading a text.

Student 5 : listening to a text.

Student 6 : Surfing the Net.

Teacher: Thanks a lot. Now it’s time to open our books on page 52. There is a long text here. What we are going to do is to use a reading technique called “Jigsaw reading” (puzzle). Team number 1, you are responsible for paragraphs A,B,C. team number 2, you have to read paragraphs D and E. Team number 3, you will work with paragraphs F,G,H.  You have 8 minutes to read your individual parts thoroughly. While reading you have to look up the meaning of the key words in the Longman dictionary and write down the definitions in your vocabulary books. (этап выявления места и причины затруднения)

Key words for Team 1: a nursery school, compulsory, the sixth form.

Key words for Team 2: a comprehensive school, grammar schools, set (for subjects).

Key words for Team 3: A-level exam, GCSE, preparatory and public schools.

Teacher: Time is up. Let’s see what “compulsory” is?

Student : Something you have to do, something necessary.

What is “the sixth form”?

Student : the highest level in secondary school when students prepare for A-level exam.

Teacher: What is …..? (I ask definitions of all key words)

In order to know your parts better I have prepared cards with questions to you. We are going to do “a fan and pick activity”. You are sitting in teams of 4 people. Person number 1, you have to fan cards for your teammates, person number 2, you have to pick a card and read it aloud, person number 3,  you have to answer the question. And person number 4, you will check, tutor and praise. In the second round, move the mat clock-wise.  So automatically person number 2 will fan cards for teammates and etc. (этап реализации построенного проекта)

Well, now I want all people number 3  to stand up, please. Ladies, you have to share the information from your paragraphs to other teams.  You have one minute to do this task.

People number 3 are sharing information, then others express their gratitude to them. As we have three teams,  they do this twice (to other two teams). Now all of you know the  text completely.  Let us say thank you to the speakers. ( этап первичного закрепления с проговариванием во внешней речи)

In our text it was mentioned about such famous schools in Britain as Eton college and Rugby school.  We are going to watch a very interesting  video about these famous schools. Before watching I would like you to look at the task and underline the keywords and predict the answer.

Famous schools. Watch the video. Are these statements false or true?

  1. You have to pay a lot of money to go to school in England.
  2. Students at Rugby school can live at the school.
  3. Both boys and girls can go to Rugby school.
  4. There are fifteen players in a rugby league team.
  5. Players use a different ball to play rugby union and rugby league.
  6. You have to throw the ball behind you in a rugby game.
  7. Students have to wear a uniform at Eton College.
  8. Only famous people can go to Eton College.
